Socks are definitely a key item any beginner knitter needs to learn how to knit. It’s that ‘to do’ item you need to tick off your list, and what better what to do that, than by watching an experienced knitter walk you through all the key steps needed to knit your very own socks. So if a step by step guide on video is what you’re looking for, this is perfect for you! Watch the video below.

The pattern required for this project is available for download free, and you can click here to access it. No matter your sock knitting preference, this pattern is for you. Great for beginners, this basic sock pattern has multiple sizes for everyone on your list and instructions for both knitting from the toe up as well as from the cuff down included. Grab a pretty skein of sock yarn and, as Fleetwood Mac says, you can go your own way.

While this pattern is beginner basic pattern, you should be comfortable with knitting in the round with DPNs, 2 circulars or Magic Loop. Other techniques used are Judy’s Magic Cast On, short rows (toe up version) and kitchner stitch (cuff down version). Instructions and links are included in the pattern for these techniques.
